This Year’s Biggest Trends in Landscaping and Hardscaping

The new year is the perfect time to take a step back and think about your resolutions. But while you’re considering your exercise plans or your reading goals, don’t forget to consider your home, too. If you’re ready to turn it into that entertaining oasis you’ve been dreaming about, here are some of the biggest trends in landscaping and hardscaping that you’re sure to see a lot of this year.

We are proud to have had a recent project in the McLean community featured in Belgard’s recent catalog!

Making your outdoor living space functional

Much like we discussed last year, in 2019 we’ll see a continued emphasis on making your outdoor living space an inviting space to relax with family and friends. Whether that means adding a fire pit, an outdoor kitchen, or nooks to sprawl and relax, this will remain a top priority for homeowners in 2019.

Upgrading your fire pit

Fire pits have certainly come a long way. They no longer need to be clunky, intrusive objects plunked down in the middle of your backyard. Now, homeowners are after elegant fire pits that add ambiance to the outdoor living space. They’re a far cry from the kind you used to sit around at summer camp.

Adding pieces that do double duty

In 2019, we’re expecting to field plenty of requests for features that serve multiple purposes. This could mean adding a retaining wall that also allows for extra seating when you’re entertaining. Maybe you’re interested in a pergola that provides shade, but is designed elegantly so it also boosts the aesthetic of your space at the same time.

Focusing on water conservation

As this issue becomes increasingly important, we’re expecting it to make an impact on how clients approach their landscape design. This year, we anticipate seeing a focus on landscaping that involves native plants, as they can cut down on unnecessary water usage.

Automating lawn care

Last year, we talked about how clients were loving their “smart” irrigation systems. We expect that this desire for easy lawn maintenance will continue. If you want to take the hassle out of caring for your yard, this feature is definitely worth looking into. We’re glad to chat with you about adding an automatic irrigation system to your yard!
